Join Us

Spectroscopy experience helps in the lab, but isn't required to join us! We are interdisciplinary, and value learning from you as much as you learn from us. A background in optics, single-molecule, information theory, or self-assembly is useful, but curiosity matters more than your exact CV.

Science should leave room for a life outside it — I care about your enjoyment, not your hours. A diverse team matters, in background, nationality, gender, ability and orientation, and so does making sure your wellbeing and ambitions are properly supported once you're here. That's not just a stated value: I co-founded Queer in Chemistry networks at Cambridge and Princeton, and co-organised the 2026 Queer in STEM Workshop.

Masters and Summer Projects

We are happy to host masters and summer projects in our lab. Both computational and experimental projects are well supported, in the general areas of spectroscopic method development and self-assembly. Please get in touch if interested (the earlier the better)!

Graduate Students

We have an open PhD position, being advertised soon! Check back here for details, or get in touch via the Contact page.

PhD projects can involve anything from building a new optical setup, to uncovering the self-assembly dynamics of a signalling complex, to using information-theory to design a new detector (or anything combining these!). We are very happy to discuss potential projects and what the lab is like in advance. It is best to get in touch early; UK PhDs typically begin in October, and starting discussions a year before you want to start is plenty of time.

Postdoctoral Researchers

Please get in touch if you are interested in pursuing a postdoc in an area related to the work of the group. We are very happy to help craft projects together, and to help in the writing of any funding applications (e.g. Royal Society Newton Fellowships etc.). Postdocs can expect a high-degree of autonomy in leading their work, as well as strong career and scientific support.
